Tip #5 - Assigning Livestock Identification Numbers
Dairy producers depend on Allflex ID systems to more efficiently and effectively manage their herds. Allflex Double Matched Pair sets combine reverse side marked visual tags with an HDX High Performance EID tag. Partnering the visual tag with an EID number provides a solution visible from nearly any angle.

Assigning numbers in dairies can be a challenge, especially in the process of culling and adding new animals to your operation.
This is especially true for dairies. As dairies have grown, so have the number ranges needed to manage the herd. Dairies that once used three-digit numbers have now gone to four and dairies using four-digit series have gone to five.
Don DeVries, one of three partners who own Syracuse Dairy in Syracuse, KS has completed tagging all cows and heifers with EID and visual matched pair sets from Allflex. This has allowed his dairy to use simpler visual tagging scenarios by incorporating a unique 15-digit EID number for each animal. Coupled with a visual tag, producers can simply start tagging calves without worrying about duplication.
